There are many scriptures that disprove the trinity but Trinitarians use a handful of scriptures to try and back up their claims of a three headed god.
The main one is John 1:1 where the King James Version states: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
At first glance it appears that the bible is stating that the Word was in fact God. However is this what it really says? Lets dig a little deeper. The Greek Text states:
εν G1722 PREP αρχη G746 N-DSF ην G1510 V-IAI-3S ο G3588 T-NSM λογος G3056 N-NSM και G2532 CONJ ο G3588 T-NSM λογος G3056 N-NSM ην G1510 V-IAI-3S προς G4314 PREP τον G3588 T-ASM θεον G2316 N-ASM και G2532 CONJ θεος G2316 N-NSM ην G1510 V-IAI-3S ο G3588 T-NSM λογος G3056 N-NSM
A word for word translation would read like this: At the first came to exist the Word, also the Word existed alongside THE God, even godlike existed the Word. 2 He existed there at the start by the side of THE God.
Also notice that taking it in context with verse 2 makes it clear that there is a distinction between The Word and The God. Notice too that in both verse 1 and verse 2 it makes reference to “the start” or “the beginning”. Using logic on this statement means that The Word has a beginning , therefore we must conclude that he was a created being, because Jehovah or The God has no beginning nor an end by definition.
Notice too that in both verses it clearly states that The Word was “alongside” or “by the side of” The God. Never does it state that The Word is part of, in any way, The God. Well doesn’t it state that The Word was God? The absence of the article “The” clearly shows that he was although godlike he himself was not The God.
So we can rule out John 1:1 as proof of a trinity.
Another scripture that triniterians use is Matthew 28:19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
In an attempt to force the scriptures to say what it does not they argue that since we baptize in the name of 3 entities that they are in fact the same. But notice they are not listed as though they were the same but repeating in each case “and of the Son/and of the Holy Ghost” making, rather a statement of them being the same, but actually different. 3 names 3 separate entities, not a trinity at all.
Next we come to John 15:26 which, according to KJV, says: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, eventhe Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
They argue that if he is the one sending the spirit of truth then he must in fact be the Father, but let’s take a look at the text in Greek:
The comforter or helper, who is also the “spirit of truth, can be identified by the Strong’s dictionary definition:
G4151
πνεῦμα
pneuma
pnyoo'-mah
From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vitalprinciple, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare G5590.
Another point to ponder is where the spirit comes “from”. Yes from the father but lets look at the definition of the word “from” as is found in the text:
G3844
παρά
para
par-ah'
A primary preposition; properly near, that is, (with genitive case) frombeside (literally or figuratively), (with dative case) at (or in) the vicinity of (objectively or subjectively), (with accusative case) to the proximity with (local [especially beyond or opposed to] or causal [onaccount of]). In compounds it retains the same variety of application: - above, against, among, at, before, by, contrary to, X friend, from, + give [such things as they], + that [she] had, X his, in, more than, nigh unto, (out) of, past, save, side . . . by, in the sight of, than, [there-] fore, with. In compounds it retains the same variety of application.
Yes from alongside not from out of him which shows the spirit of truth, the comforter and helper is separate. So the holy spirit is a separate force that is sent as a “helper, comforter and spirit of truth.
So from these scriptures it can be plainly seen, upon close examination, that these scriptures do not support the trinity and instead uphold the separateness of the three.
Lets turn now to exactly who the three are. Jehovah the almighty God has always existed and will always exist. He is all powerful and “abundant in dynamic energy” and out of his energy were all things created.
The first thing that was created was the Word who later became Jesus Christ. In fact he was the only thing that Jehovah directly created. Through him Jehovah continued to create everything else by use of the force of energy called the holy spirit.
